Chapel Hill – Carrboro NAACP Branch Statement on the Fall of the Silent Sam Statue

The Chapel Hill – Carrboro Branch of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is grateful there were no injuries Monday night as Silent Sam fell. One could only hope that the thud Silent Sam made upon crashing to earth punctuated the end of a fifty-year struggle, but clearly, it didn’t.

The situation is still a mess and the struggle continues.

It is our branch’s position that this juncture of the struggle underscores how badly we need massive voter registration and unprecedented voter turnout this fall.

Register to vote. Help register others to vote. Help get others to the polls this fall. Take advantage of early voting, which starts October 17th.

We need a revolution of character, morals and ethics in our state government. Its current composition cannot do that, so our state legislature must be overhauled by the people and the time to do that is now.

Defeat Hate! Vote!
