Enough is Enough: North Carolina NAACP's Response to the Death of Andrew Brown

Here we are again outraged to hear of yet another Black man dead, allegedly at the hands of those who are supposed to protect and serve. The murder of Andrew Brown in Elizabeth City, NC Black man, 40-years of age and a father of 10 on the morning after the guilty on every count verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin screams for increased scrutiny of the policing system. We intentionally resist referring to what we are subjected to as law enforcement because it has become the total opposite; it is lawless enforcement. We call for the immediate review of the body cameras and a thorough investigation of the Sheriff's Department. We further call for immediate reform measures, locally, statewide and nationally and we call on Attorney General Josh Stein and Governor Roy Cooper to rise up and do what you were elected to do. Your delayed actions are failing your constituency. Additionally, Legislators MUST be held accountable to pass legislation to police the police. We will not stand idly by and watch North Carolina become another Minnesota. To the family we offer our condolences, to the community we offer our support and to our elected officials we will hold you accountable as we continue journeying to justice.
